Erik, sometimes I think I over-shoot, given how good the dynamic range is in cameras these days. But bracketing can be really useful for getting different shutter speeds for flowing water.
Oh, I definitely try different shutter speeds and determine later what looks best on a larger screen. I just usually do this manually with specific shutter speeds in mind. I haven’t done it with automatic bracketing.
I’m curious- do you take notes in the field about each shot, for info on where the camera was positioned, focal points, etc?
I have tried to, but invariably I run out of time / forget. What I do instead is journal at the end of each day and, as soon as I'm home, I download my images and do a quick scan / edit while fresh in my mind.
I learned a lot from your approach to camera work. Thanks for that! My process is similar, but I’m not quite as systematic with in-camera bracketing.

I find it a bit too difficult to keep up with in the moment, but I may add it into my journaling at the end of the day.
